Sometimes when producers use the words loops or samples, they mean the same thing. However, sometimes the terms are used to describe something very specific.
“Loop” sometimes refers to any piece of pre-recorded sound, no matter where it came from or what the sound is. As long as it can be copied and placed repeatedly end to end it’s a loop.
The term “sample” can at times refer to a piece of pre-recorded sound that was edited from a longer recording, such as a short piece of music from a hit song. One recent example is Beyonce & Jay-Z’s hit “Crazy In Love” which samples a great horn part used in the intro and in the chorus. Another example would be Eminem’s song “Stan” which samples vocals from a Dido tune.
